Presentation
The Hiwatt DR20/0.5 takes the legendary preamp circuitry of the DR103 and DR504, but in a compact, portable format. It uses David Reeve's original preamp circuit and Harry Joice's military wiring method.
With its 20W power section, switchable down to 0.5W, it allows you to play at low volume without losing clarity or dynamics, ideal for home rehearsals, studio sessions or small clubs. Its wide, precise English grain brings out every nuance of your playing, whether you're using a guitar, keyboard or acoustic instrument, while staying true to the legendary sound of the DR series.
The head features 2 channels, Normal and Brilliant, as well as a 'Linked' input that allows you to bridge the 2 channels for a richer, more powerful sound. This historic configuration, inspired by Pete Cornish's modification for David Gilmour, increases the signal to the first tube of the preamp, giving a more present and engaging sound. The controls remain simple to use, with a volume for each channel, a Master Volume and a common three-band EQ enriched by a Presence control to adjust the overall brightness.
Each DR20/0.5 is fully hand-wired in the UK to Harry Joyce standards, with hand-picked components, the famous Partridge™ transformer, 4 ECC83 (12AX7) preamp tubes and 2 EL84 power tubes. The amp retains the responsiveness and finesse of its elders while adapting to lower volumes thanks to its built-in attenuation. The Fat/Sparkle switch lets you boost the bass or treble to enrich the sound according to use and instrument.
Pedals remain true to their sound, and the DR20/0.5 can be connected to external speakers via its three jack outputs. Lightweight, it's easy to carry around and delivers a clear sound, faithful to the legendary DR, even in a reduced format. Whether playing at home, in the studio or on stage, it's a versatile choice that captures all the personality and punch of Hiwatt's historic amps.

To find out more...
Dave Reeves was a British engineer and the founder of Hiwatt, a famous brand of amplifiers for guitar and bass. After working for Sound City and Mullard, in the 1960s he created his own models, designed to be robust, reliable and deliver a clear sound even at high volume. His amps quickly won over legendary bands such as The Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, helping to define rock's famous "British sound". Although he died in 1981, his influence lives on and Hiwatt amplifiers are still built according to his principles.
The Original HIWATT is still hand-wired to Dave Reeves' exacting specifications, using only the highest quality British speakers, components and audio transformers.
