As soon as you place your hands on the Russian birch top, the playing feel is immediate and very organic. J. Leiva has fitted small silicone pads beneath the shell to completely isolate the instrument from the floor. What does this mean in practice? No vibration is lost into the floor. Every low strike resonates fully in your chest, whilst the slaps remain crisp and precise thanks to the protective cellulose varnish, which preserves the wood’s natural snap.

In the middle of a track, if the mood changes, you don’t need to slow down the tempo to adjust the tuning keys. The DTS system allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the four inner strings by feel, directly from the outside of the shell. You can switch from a dry, compressed tone to a fuller, muddier sound in the blink of an eye, to stay 100 per cent in sync with your bandmates.
