To find out more...
Marcus Miller has also distinguished himself by his ability to make the transition from sideman to leader with great credibility. After working in the shadows for a long time, he really launched his solo career in the 1990s, imposing a musical vision centred on the bass as the main instrument.
One interesting aspect is that he often plays with very few notes, favouring rhythmic placement and precision over technical demonstration. This economy of style enhances the impact of his grooves.
He is also highly respected for his role as a mentor, collaborating with young musicians on stage and in the studio, helping to pass on the codes of modern jazz fusion to a new generation.
