The MXR FOD Drive recreates the experience of blending the saturated tones of two coveted amps directly from your pedalboard.
The MXR team got their hands on a pair of heavily customised guitar amps of legendary make and model for careful analysis.
One amp was tweaked for a super scooped high-gain saturation, while the other was modified for a punchy midrange crunch.
Played in tandem, these complementary profiles revealed a harmonically complex palette of grain, grind and maximum overdrive that sounded so incredibly good that the team knew they had to make it available to musicians around the world.
By painstakingly recreating each amplifier as a compact circuit, MXR's engineers integrated them into the same box as separate channels: High Gain and Crunch Gain.
Each channel has its own gain and volume controls so you can dial in the right sound signature for each side.
The Blend control then lets you set the mixing ratio of the two signals, as if you had two separate amps running in a mixing box.
The Tone knob adjusts the EQ for the overall output signal, and the Scoop switch lets you choose between flat, hollowed-out or accented midrange vocals.
