The Roland WM-1D changes this approach by bringing wireless MIDI directly to the Windows computer. This USB key acts as a dongle that allows your setup to communicate wirelessly with devices equipped with a WM-1 adapter (required on the instrument side). In practical terms, your keyboard, controller or drum machine can exchange MIDI data with your computer or music applications seamlessly, without any physical connection.

The main benefit is responsiveness. In MIDI, latency - the delay between the action and the sound - has a direct influence on playing comfort. The WM-1D uses a very fast transmission that maintains precise, natural timing. Standard mode covers the majority of uses with low latency, while Fast mode pushes performance even further, to around 3 ms, which becomes essential for rhythmic sequences, tempo synchronisation, LFOs or loops. The dongle also brings Fast mode support to iOS and Mac systems in a WM environment, further improving the speed of communication between devices.
