What is StarQuad?
A traditional balanced cable uses three conductors to carry audio signals: a shielded core for the positive connection, a shielded core for the negative connection and an outer jacket that acts as a ground. The idea is that a fully symmetrical system reverses the phase and merges the positive and negative signals together, effectively cancelling out any interference encountered along the length of the cable by shifting it out of phase with the audio. StarQuad construction takes this concept a step further, using five conductors instead of three: two conductors each for the positive and negative connections and a single earth. This provides greater protection for the audio from radio frequency interference (RFI) than a traditional three-conductor cable.

What is Double-Ruessen shielding?
Most cable construction techniques use an outer sheath of metal wire to act as a ground. Some manufacturers braid this wire, while others simply wrap the wires very evenly to protect the inner wires from electromagnetic interference. Double-Ruessen shielding goes much further than more traditional techniques in two ways: firstly, the cable is wrapped with not one, but TWO separate shields, and secondly, the outer shield wraps around the inner shield in an opposite direction. This creates a stronger, more complete EMI shield for the inner conductors and can result in a surprising reduction in interference. Double-Reussen shielding is a little more expensive to manufacture, but for those who accept only the best, it represents the pinnacle of current balanced cable technology.
