Yamaha’s binaural sampling technology is now available on the Clavinova. This technology uses a sampling process from Yamaha’s world-renowned CFX concert grand piano, in which specially positioned microphones are used to capture the sound as it is heard by the human ear. The result is so natural and enveloping that you forget you’re wearing headphones.

A multitude of exhilarating sounds:
The CSP-150 includes several hundred ultra-realistic sounds. They are divided into different categories, including “Natural!”, “Sweet!” and “Cool!” Voices. Each category uses its own unique sampling and processing process to achieve the most perfect result for each type of instrument. Yamaha Super Articulation (SA) Voices incorporate the subtleties and effects inherent to each instrument. Every melody played on the keyboard sounds as if it were coming from a virtuoso player playing his or her original instrument.

More than a piano:
One of the strengths of the Clavinova CSP is the multitude of styles that can be controlled in real time using simple chords played on the keyboard. Automatic accompaniments add orchestrations composed by virtual musicians to your performances, in all musical styles. Whether it's a small jazz band or a large philharmonic orchestra, they adapt to your chords and harmonies, and adjust their playing volume according to the dynamics applied to the keyboard. Developed by professional musicians from around the world and of impressive quality, the styles are an inexhaustible source for performing, arranging and embellishing your songs in real time, even when playing alone.

Graded Hammer 3X (GH3X) Keyboard:
The CSP-150's touch quality is appreciated by pianists because it makes them forget they are playing a digital instrument, giving them a natural and perfect response when they engage the keyboard. Using a concept similar to the hammer action of grand pianos, the GH3X action faithfully reproduces the touch of an acoustic piano with a graduated distribution of key weight, heavier in the bass and lighter in the treble.

Clavinova Escapement:
The escapement mechanism on a grand piano frees the hammers from the rest of the action, so that they can bounce away from the strings after they are struck, to avoid any interference with the vibration of the strings. This mechanism produces a slight resistance when the keys are pressed gently. In order to perfect the sensations on the three axes of touch, sound and pedals, summarized in the concept "Real Grand Expression", we decided to develop an escapement mechanism in order to offer you an exceptional touch. The Clavinovas have this escapement mechanism which reproduces this sensation perceived when the key reaches the end of its travel. It is designed in such a way that the slight resistance caused is only perceptible when the keys are pressed gently, in order to find the same sensations as on a real grand piano. The keyboards have been adjusted to provide additional friction that balances the repetition of the notes without hindering the performance.

Synthetic ivory and ebony on the top of the notes for intense playing:
Our fingers are much more sensitive than we imagine, and for pianists, the texture of the keys is of capital importance. The white keys are covered with high-quality synthetic ivory, developed by Yamaha. The black keys, meanwhile, feature a synthetic ebony finish. Synthetic ivory reproduces the tactile sensations of the keys once made of ivory on old pianos. This coating, offering a soft and slightly porous surface, is highly absorbent, preventing fingers from slipping on the keyboard after long hours of use. The result of more than a century of experience in the manufacture of acoustic pianos, the mastery of this exclusive Yamaha material gives the instrument a perfect finish, both tactile and visual, ensuring the pianist immediate pleasure. No other digital piano can match such a quality of finish.

Keyboard Stabilizers: an exclusive Yamaha system that improves the stability and reliability of the keyboard:
The keyboard must respond perfectly to the impulse of your fingers. Because the keyboard plays such an important role, it must allow you to play with the same precision for long periods. This is why all the keys are equipped with the Keyboard Stabilizers system. This process greatly improves the stability and durability of the keys over time.

Faithful reproduction of all the harmonics of a piano:
On a grand piano, the entire body of the instrument resonates to produce rich reverberations that envelop the listener. The strings that correspond to the notes played vibrate, causing other strings to resonate through interaction. This is one of the reasons why the sound of a piano is so complex and harmonically rich.
The Clavinova's Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) technology faithfully reproduces the acoustic phenomena generated by a grand piano: it analyzes and calculates the state of the different strings (released or muted) according to the notes played on the keyboard or the use of the pedals and restores in real time the natural resonances that result.

Acoustic Optimizers:
The speakers integrated into an instrument, if nothing is done, generate audible parasitic frequencies due to the resonance of the body of the instrument. By installing pipes that vibrate on these same frequencies, these inconveniences are eliminated. Acoustic optimizers are based on this principle.
The development of this technology was only possible thanks to Yamaha's enormous knowledge in the field of vibration phenomena of acoustic instruments.
