Why switch from Ableton Live Intro to Live 12 Suite?
Are you already using Ableton Live Intro and starting to feel cramped? Do you dream of pushing back the boundaries of your musical creativity, gaining access to more powerful tools and a huge sound library? Then upgrading to Ableton Live 12 Suite is the quantum leap your music has been waiting for. Find out how this move transforms your approach to production, live performance and composition.
1. Say Goodbye to Track and Scene Limitations!
One of the first things Intro users notice is the limitations on tracks (8 audio/MIDI tracks) and scenes. With Live Intro, ideas abound but space is limited.
With Live 12 Suite: no more constraints! Access an unlimited number of audio and MIDI tracks, as well as an unlimited number of scenes. Create complex arrangements, layer instruments, explore multiple variations without ever worrying about space. It's total freedom for your imagination.
2. The World of Max for Live Opens Up to You
This is one of the most exciting features for Intro users. Max for Live is not available in your current version.
With Live 12 Suite: Unlock Max for Live, an integrated platform that lets you use thousands of instruments, effects and toolkits created by the Ableton and Cycling '74 community. Better still, you can create your own unique tools! From advanced granular synthesizers (including Granulator III!) to innovative MIDI sequencers, Max for Live is an inexhaustible source of inspiration that will transform your creative process.
3. An XXL Sound Library for Unlimited Creativity
Live Intro offers a taste of Ableton sounds, but it's with the Suite that you unlock the real treasure.
With Live 12 Suite: access a massive, constantly expanding sound library with over 70GB of professional sounds. From percussive drums to realistic acoustic instruments, vintage synths to futuristic textures, you'll have everything you need to produce in any genre. There's no need to download expensive external samples - everything is integrated and optimised for Live.
4. Powerful New Instruments and Effects Built In
Live 12 Suite brings exciting new ways to sculpt your sound.
- Meld: Create unique, complex sound textures with this new bi-timbral synthesizer.
- Roar : Add character and energy to your sounds with this powerful multi-stage saturation and distortion effect.
- Over 17 instruments and 59 audio/MIDI effects: Compare this to the few basic instruments and effects in Live Intro, and you'll understand the breadth of the creative arsenal you'll get.
5. Intelligent MIDI Tools for Idea Generation
Looking for inspiration? Live 12 Suite has the solution.
- MIDI Transformers and Generators: These revolutionary tools help you break through artist's block. Transform your existing melodies in unexpected ways or generate new MIDI patterns, rhythms and chords from scratch. It's like having a co-composer built into Live!
- Micro-tuning support: Explore new harmonics and sounds with support for alternative tunings.
6. Improved and optimised workflow
Even the way you work has been rethought for greater efficiency.

Spotlight on
Founded in 1999 by two German techno musicians, Ableton has managed to grow to an international level with a single sequencer/recorder software: Live, released in 2001.
Among its many features, Live allows musicians to easily store and trigger samples during their performances, so that the audience can watch them build songs in real time. This game-changing software made it easier for "enlightened amateurs" to make music and use their computers as instruments, as well as to play live without needing to know how to program their own software.
