The Arturia KeyLab Essential 3 88 White is the master keyboard that takes its ease without overdoing it. With its 88 semi-weighted keys, it's comfortable without being overbearing. The RGB pads are finger- and groove-responsive, the faders and pots are easy to get to grips with, and the backlit LED screen doesn't just look pretty: it guides you through the menus and saves you from existential cursor crises.
It's compatible with most DAWs, and even has a neat automatic button for Ableton Live, Logic and FL Studio. And with its Chord and Scale modes and on-board arpeggiator, you're pretty much guaranteed never to miss a note again. Unless you really want to.
For its part, the Native Instruments Komplete 15 Standard Upgrade bundle acts as a digital treasure chest. More than 95 pro instruments and effects, classics like Massive X, Kontakt 8, Guitar Rig 7 Pro, and a full range of Expansions to suit all tastes. From obscure techno to cinematic textures, there's a little Christmas in every preset.
The duo really comes into its own when the Arturia keyboard and Komplete 15 come together in your DAW. Pads on Kontakt, mapped controls for Massive or FM8, presets to explore for a decade: here you are in a workstation that's both intuitive and labyrinthine.
