Designed to give your bass a silky sound, Velvet Compressor is a surprisingly complete compression pedal. It's a simple pedal with an advanced circuit. A single knob adjusts several parameters simultaneously: gain, ratio and threshold are all synchronised and set with the Compact knob, while attack and attenuation are optimised and preset according to the signal passing through.

The main use of any good compressor is to smooth and level out the dynamic range of the instrument.
While most modern bass amps are equipped with a very simplified version of this, some lack this key feature.
In use, the Velvet Compressor should be set so that the volume does not change when the pedal is switched on/off.
This is achieved by adjusting the input and output level controls.
The rotary Input control is accompanied by a 3-band light control (white, blue and red) to help you set the ideal input level before using the compressor. The blue tickling light being the recommended amount.
With your input signal at its optimum level, set the overall output of the pedal into the amplifier with the Output
Once set, the Compact control is really where it's at... it adds more or less compression, while maintaining dynamics and keeping your sound coherent.
While some bass compressors force you to compromise on compression between high and low strings, which can be particularly difficult for bass players, the Ashdown Velvet compressor allows you to be precise with every note.
