An FM signal is not limited to audio content. The addition of RDS data also allows the broadcast programme to be accompanied by information displayed on the screens of compatible receivers. With this option, the Falcon directly incorporates RDS/RBDS encoding functions, without the need for additional hardware.

Encoding is fully digital and complies with several international standards: UECP EBU SPB490 v7.05, Cenelec for Europe and NRSC for the United States. This compatibility allows the encoder to be adapted to different broadcasting environments.

Data management is based on eight data sets, offering sufficient flexibility to accommodate different programme configurations. Static information may include radio text, whilst dynamic functions enable the use of several commonly used RDS services: PS, RT, CT, EON, RT+, PTY and PTYN.

The encoder can also be used to broadcast emergency information. Weather or traffic alerts can thus be transmitted to listeners with compatible receivers. Beyond enhancing the programme, RDS thus becomes an additional means of rapidly communicating useful information.

One of the benefits of this option is its integration with the Falcon. No additional hardware modules are required for installation: the encoder is added directly to the processor. It can then be configured and operated via the web-based user interface, allowing RDS data to be modified and monitored remotely.
