The Boss TU-05 weighs thirty-five grams on the headstock - virtually no presence, and an immediate impact on the rigour of the playing. The backlit colour LCD screen is impressive in any stage lighting conditions: dark pits, rehearsals in natural light, studios with poor orientation. The rotation of the display adapts to the viewing angle without any complex manipulation. The information is there, clear, legible and definitive.

In a 42 × 58 × 48 mm case, the rechargeable lithium-polymer battery delivers ten hours of continuous autonomy with a consumption of just 10 mA - remarkable endurance for this format. Recharging is via the USB cable supplied, with no need for a proprietary mains adapter. The automatic shutdown function after five minutes of inactivity protects energy reserves between uses, without manual intervention.

The detection range A0 (27.5 Hz) to C8 (4186 Hz) covers guitar, bass, ukulele and non-standard stringed instruments without exception - a spectrum that makes the TU-05 universally deployable in a wide range of instruments. The A4 tuning can be set between 431 and 449 Hz using the MODE/VALUE knob: a precise adjustment for playing with orchestras, harpsichords or early instruments with unconventional tuning forks. The Flat Tuning mode goes down to three semitones, and the accuracy of ±1 cent ensures that each string finds its target frequency without approximation.
