Continuing EMI's rich tradition of innovation, dating back to the early 1930s with Alan Blumlein, the father of 'stereo', Chandler Limited and Abbey Road Studios present the REDD Microphone, the first new EMI-labelled microphone for over 50 years.

The founder and chief designer of Chandler Limited, Wade Goeke, is behind the patents for the REDD Microphone: he has brought together historic circuitry and the sound of the EMI REDD.47 preamplifier in an innovative way.

Its classic look is an ode to the golden age of audio, but it's definitely not a U-type clone or a derivative of any other microphone.

The sound of the REDD Microphone is larger than life, with a velvety top end designed to handle a wide variety of sources: vocals, strings, piano, drums, bass guitar, electric and acoustic guitars.

Interview with former Abbey Road chief engineer Peter Cobbin:
"During development I had the opportunity to test this microphone on some of the best acoustic applications. Abbey Road has quite a collection of microphones and by making comparisons with other legendary and vintage microphones, it gave us a serious reference to work with.
In general, to record an artist like Sting, I would use three classic microphones and choose the best one. To record Stradivarius cellos worth millions, I'd look for something really special. In almost any application, whether it's acoustic guitars, hand percussion, vocal artists or full symphony orchestras, the REDD mic shines above all others."
