Presentation
The DBX 676 embodies DBX’s heritage of over 40 years’ expertise in dynamic processing and the design of professional audio circuits. This analogue channel strip combines three essential elements of a recording chain: a valve microphone preamp, a high-precision compressor/limiter and a comprehensive semi-parametric equaliser.
Its Class A valve preamp operates at high voltage with a 250 V DC power supply, delivering both transparent, detailed reproduction and warmer harmonic saturation depending on the settings used. This design offers a rich sonic character well-suited to vocals, acoustic instruments, amps or sources requiring character.
The dynamics section adopts the approach of the renowned dbx 162SL compressor to provide precise dynamic control whilst preserving the musicality of the signal. It offers adjustment of the threshold, ratio, attack and release times, as well as OverEasy or Hard Knee modes to adapt the compressor’s response to each application. A PeakPlus limiter completes the package to protect the signal against level overloads.
The 676 also incorporates a 3-band semi-parametric equaliser with mid-range frequencies sweepable from 100 Hz to 8 kHz, offering precise control over the sound’s character. The wide range of available connections, including XLR inputs and outputs, 6.35 mm jacks, a front-panel instrument input and a side-chain insert, allows for flexible integration into any professional environment.
With its robust construction, controls inspired by vintage equipment and a high-visibility analogue VU meter, the DBX 676 is a comprehensive solution for studios, broadcast installations and live venues requiring consistent sound quality.
