Equalizer

The Drawmer MQ-2 combines 7-band analogue equaliser and stereo compressor in a 500 module, offering vintage warmth, musical precision and the famous "Crush" harmonic saturation.

ARTICLE N° 113042
The Drawmer MQ-2 is a 7-band stereo equalizer in 500 Series format, inspired by the legendary Motown EQ from Detroit studios in the 1960s. Entirely analogue and made in the UK, it captures the iconic musical frequencies of that era while adding modern tools for complete dynamic control.

Each band is centred on a carefully selected frequency (50 Hz, 130 Hz, 320 Hz, 800 Hz, 2 kHz, 5 kHz and 12.5 kHz) and offers a ±10 dB gain range with a Proportional-Q curve. This means that the bandwidth varies according to the intensity of the adjustment, guaranteeing musical, natural and always harmonious corrections. The MQ-2's equalisation retains the spirit of vintage consoles while offering the precision needed for today's production standards.

But the MQ-2 doesn't stop at EQ: it also incorporates a simple and effective single-potentiometer compressor. This programme-dependent compressor automatically adapts its attack and release to the incoming signal, for smooth, transparent control of dynamics. The combination of EQ + compression on a single unit allows you to sculpt a rich, homogenous and coherent sound in just a few gestures.

Another major asset is the CRUSH circuit, inherited from the famous 1971 Drawmer. When activated, it introduces gentle, progressive harmonic saturation, bringing the warmth and density typical of analogue circuits. When used with compression, it becomes a real sound shaping tool, thickening the bottom end of the spectrum, making the midrange more present and giving the treble a subtle brilliance. The more the signal is pushed, the more CRUSH expresses itself - ideal for fleshing out drum tracks, guitars, vocals or stereo busses.

Thanks to its EQ/Comp Order switch, users can choose the order of processing in the audio chain (EQ before or after compression), paving the way for different sonic textures depending on the desired mix. The MQ-2 also features a hardware bypass, stereo LED meters and a gain reduction indicator, for precise visual control in all circumstances.

Occupying two 500 rack slots, the MQ-2 is aimed at sound engineers, producers and studios looking for a musical and versatile analogue tool capable of transforming raw sound into a rich, warm and expressive mix.

Drawmer is a well-known brand in the PA and studio universe, specialised in signal processing devices. You are looking for a Noise Gate that does not only cut the sound, go for the MX40. This quadruple Noise Gate allows an automatic setting of the attack time and offers the Peak Punch function that adds more impact to drum and percussive sounds.
