Lindell Audio - PEX-500

The Lindell Audio PEX-500 transposes the approach and philosophy of classic Pultec equalizers into a compact, robust and affordable 500 series module. It is a mono passive equalizer, using a network of inductors for filtering and a type 990 discrete amplifier for the compensation gain, an architecture renowned for its musicality and natural behaviour.

The equalisation circuit allows the low and high frequencies to be adjusted separately using fixed-position rotary selectors, ensuring excellent repeatability of settings. Low frequencies can be boosted in a wide, controlled way, ideal for adding substance to bass, kick drums or low vocals. High frequencies benefit from a generous, silky boost, as well as independent attenuation, allowing the top end of the spectrum to be sculpted without aggression.

As with Pultec's historic designs, the combination of boost and attenuation on the same bands produces complex, highly musical curves, particularly appreciated on busses, vocals or acoustic instruments. The PEX-500 is completely discrete, with no generic integrated circuits, and uses input and output transformers to ensure optimum integration into a professional analogue chain.

Hard-wired hardware bypass allows instant comparison of processed and unprocessed signal without any additional coloration. Compatible with all standard 500 series power supplies, the PEX-500 fits easily into an existing rack, whether for recording, mixing or bus processing.
