Midi Interface

Elektron’s Outbox 8 adds eight configurable physical outputs to a music setup and allows both audio and CV signals to be routed through it. When connected to an Elektron device, a computer or a compatible USB MIDI device, it also enables you to control a modular system, external effects or several audio devices separately.

ARTICLE N° 126962
When using an Elektron machine, a computer and a modular system, connection options can quickly become limited. Elektron’s Outbox 8 is an audio/CV breakout box designed specifically to expand output options and bridge the gap between these different environments.

Its eight 6.35 mm jack outputs are fully configurable and can transmit audio or various types of CV signals. In an audio setup, each output can receive an individual track or a sub-mix from a compatible device, allowing individual elements to be sent separately to a mixing desk, external effects, speakers or any other processing equipment. The Outbox 8 can also function as an eight-output USB audio interface for a computer, tablet or mobile phone.

The CV section significantly expands its range of applications. The outputs can be assigned to pitch, gate, trigger, linear value or clock functions. The various control formats supported allow you to control modular instruments and other CV-compatible devices, using V/Oct or Hz/V pitch standards.

The Outbox 8 can also convert MIDI to CV directly. A USB MIDI controller can thus become the starting point for a modular system, whilst an Elektron machine can sequence, play and modulate external instruments without requiring an additional interface.

Thanks to its dual-role USB operation, the unit can be used as both a device and a host. It is compatible with Elektron machines that support Overbridge, class-compliant USB MIDI devices and numerous class-compliant USB audio devices. Compact and powered via USB-C, it integrates easily into both studio and live set-ups.
