As well as providing a wide range of control and a unique feature set, the Distressor delivers a warm, vintage sound using a custom-designed gain control circuit. This 'warmth' or 'vintage sound' has become a major problem over the last few decades, as super-clear, linear digital technology does virtually nothing to soften 'harsh' sounds, or accentuate the low frequencies of musical sources. Conversely, the old analogue cassettes, vinyl records and tube equipment could not be prevented from colouring the sound, often to the dismay of sound engineers. However, many people now realise that this colouration can be extremely pleasant and musical. Digital technology is often described as 'cold' and 'fragile' among other terms (although we prefer 'ruthless').
