Epiphone - 1963 Firebird I Inverness Green
Epiphone and Gibson Custom have teamed up again to create the 1963-inspired Firebird I – an authentic replica of the guitar designed by legendary automobile designer Ray Dietrich. When it launched in 1963, the Firebird was Gibson’s first neck-through model, and it went on to be used by a wide range of musicians, including blues legend Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, to name a few.
Presentation
Inspired by Ray Dietrich’s original design, this reissue offers authentic vintage specifications while remaining accessible to today’s players.
The Firebird I is distinguished by its neck-through construction, combining a 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck, flanked by two mahogany wings. This unique configuration ensures exceptional resonance and increased stability.
With a neck profile inspired by the 1963 Firebird and a Indian laurel fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays, this guitar offers smooth and comfortable playability.
The hardware is built to historic specifications with Kluson planetary banjo tuners for stable, precise tuning and a Lightning Bar Wraparound bridge for rich sustain and reliable intonation.
The sleek aesthetic is highlighted by a white pickguard with a red Firebird logo embossed on it, which perfectly complements the Inverness Green gloss finish.
Electronically, this Firebird is equipped with a Gibson USA Mini-Humbucker pickup, designed with Alnico 5 magnets to capture the rich, dynamic tones that have defined rock and blues music history.
The pickup is paired with premium components, including CTS potentiometers and a Mallory capacitor, for precise control of volume and tone.
Complete with a signature Inspired by Gibson Custom hardshell case, the 1963 Firebird I Inverness Green is more than just an instrument: it’s a piece of history, reimagined to meet the needs of modern guitarists while retaining the bold spirit of the original.
