Epiphone - 1963 Firebird I Silver Mist
Epiphone and Gibson Custom have teamed up again to create the 1963-inspired Firebird I – an authentic replica of the guitar designed by legendary automobile designer Ray Dietrich. When it launched in 1963, the Firebird was Gibson’s first neck-through model, and it went on to be used by a wide range of musicians, including blues legend Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music, to name a few.
Presentation
Its 9-ply mahogany and walnut through-body neck, flanked by Okoume wings, provides exceptional resonance and unmatched stability. This innovative construction choice, combined with a 1963 Firebird neck profile and a Indian laurel fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays, ensures smooth playability and rich tonal response.
The Firebird I retains the signature details that have marked the history of this model. Kluson banjo-style tuners, combined with the Lightning Bar Wraparound bridge, provide precise tuning and extended sustain. The white pickguard with a red embossed Firebird logo adds an iconic aesthetic touch.
Electronically, the guitar is equipped with a Gibson USA Firebird Mini-Humbucker pickup with Alnico 5 magnets, reproducing the dynamic and powerful tones of the original. The hand-wired system incorporates high-end components, including CTS potentiometers and a Mallory capacitor, for optimal sonic precision.
Controls include a simple but effective master volume and master tone.
Finished in Silver Mist, nickel-plated hardware and supplied with a hardshell case signed Inspired by Gibson Custom, the 1963 Firebird I Silver Mist is much more than a tribute: it is a versatile and timeless tool that celebrates bold style and musical innovation.
