The Gretsch Catalina Club CC2-M264-SAF drum kit is part of a sound approach clearly oriented towards vintage aesthetics. This series occupies a special place in Gretsch's history, as it marked the brand's opening to international production while introducing mahogany as the main wood species. This wood provides a warm colouration, with full bass and a very present midrange.
The 7-ply mahogany barrels have a 30° chamfer, for optimum contact between the skin and the barrel. The result is a more open, responsive sound that's easy to control at low volumes. Remo's original mounted heads make for quick installation and respect the natural character of the barrels.
The 16 "x12" bass drum develops a compact, defined sound, ideal for small stages and studio recordings. The 10 "x7" tom and the 13 "x12" bass tom provide smooth melodic descents with great continuity of tone. The 13 "x5" snare responds quickly and maintains excellent clarity of nuance.
The 1.6 mm triple-flange hoops let the drum breathe and enhance playability. The wood hoops on the bass drum contribute to a more organic projection. The Mini GTS system and 'Gas Cap' bass drum plate enhance comfort while limiting unwanted vibrations.
