Lefthanded Electric Guitar

Sire Larry Carlton J3 LH Blue The Sire Larry Carlton J3 LH in Blue is the left-handed version that makes no concessions on substance. The mahogany body in Sire JM offset format anchors the midrange, while the set of single-coil, high output LC Standard JM pickups delivers a clean attack that the 3-position selector sculpts in real time. Edgeless™ rosewood fingerboard, 42mm bone saddle, 2-point vibrato bridge - everything is in place for those who play without a net.

The Sire Larry Carlton J3 LH in Blue enters the room with a clarity of purpose that stands in stark contrast to the often muddled world of offset guitars. The mahogany body in Sire JM shape format doesn't try to imitate: it claims a direct lineage to the vintage instruments of the 60s, while delivering dense bass and midrange that hold up against a pushed amp. It's the kind of guitar that sounds great even before you touch a fret.

The hard maple neck, screwed together with a 4-screw steel plate, tolerates no parasitic movement. On the Edgeless™ rosewood fingerboard, the rounded fret edges mean in practical terms that the left hand glides from one end to the other without catching, across the entire 647.7mm scale. The 241.3 mm radius favours wide positions, and the 22 2.7 mm Medium Jumbo frets provide just the right amount of surface area for string-bending without overdoing it. The 42 mm bone saddle transmits vibrations without filtering them: the string sounds from square zero.

The set of single-coil, high-output LC Standard JM pickups follows the J-style logic - clean attack, open dynamic range, no artificial compression. The volume, tone and 3-position selector circuit remain in the vintage tradition: sober, direct and straightforward. The 10.8 mm string spacing disciplines chord playing, and the standard Sire 2-point vibrato bridge allows measured inflections without destabilising the chord. Visually, the Mint Green pickguard against the Blue colour, the white Strat-style buttons and the chrome finish of the hardware create a picture that looks as good on stage as it does in the studio. The diecast oil-bath mechanics do the rest.

Larry Carlton left his mark on the history of studio playing by contributing to the rise of 'LA session sound', where musicians had to be able to record perfect takes quickly, often in one or two passes.

Early on, he also developed a hybrid approach between jazz and pop: using enriched chords (9th, 13th), but in simple, accessible structures, which made his style highly adaptable for television, cinema and mainstream albums.

Another important point: for a long time he taught indirectly through his solo albums and clinics, influencing a whole generation of guitarists who learned to work on sound, dynamics and feel rather than pure speed.
