Lefthanded Bass

Sire Marcus Miller GB5 5 Strings LH Natural The Sire Marcus Miller GB5 5 Strings Left-Handed plays in a range that electric basses don't reach: that of the solid spruce top over a mahogany back, with a Piezo Vividx-B pickup under the saddle that reproduces acoustic harmonics without artificial processing. 20 Medium frets, Edgeless™ rosewood fingerboard, passive 3-band EQ with phase selector - a 5-string left-handed electro-acoustic bass built around the natural sound.

The Sire Marcus Miller GB5 5 Strings Left-Handed in Natural starts from a different premise to all the basses in this conversation: sound comes first from wood, before any electronic circuitry. The solid spruce top is not a decoration - it's the vibrating membrane of the acoustic system. The solid spruce works the high frequencies with a transparency that plywood never reproduces, and the mahogany back gives warmth to the low midrange. Together, they create the round, open, acoustic bass-like spectrum that soft jazz and unplugged sessions naturally call for.

The 3-piece C-profile mahogany neck responds to a need for stability over five strings: a one-piece neck works better under low-frequency tension. Three pieces glued together in alternating directions compensate for the wood's movements over time. The Edgeless™ rosewood fingerboard adds a warm playing grain under the fingers, with its rounded edges eliminating the fingerboard edge - a detail that counts on the 20 2.4mm Medium frets of an 863.6mm tuning fork. The 46 mm, 5-string bone nut with 17 mm spacing gives a tight, melodic line rather than a slap sound.

The Piezo Vividx-B pick-up positioned under the saddle picks up vibrations directly at the point of transmission between strings and bridge - this is where the acoustic signal is at its purest, without the coloration of an air pick-up. The passive preamp with integrated 3-band EQ and its phase selector manage the amplification without adding any active circuitry to the chain: the Volume, Treble, Midrange and Bass controls shape the signal while preserving the natural dynamics of the instrument, and the phase selector eliminates feedback problems on stage.

The Sire Acoustic Bass bridge, premium chrome die-cast tuners and 4-screw neck joint with bushings complete the acoustic specification. The 304.8 mm radius and Sire Acoustic Bass shape complete the picture of a left-handed bass designed for those who want the body of an acoustic instrument without giving up the stage.

Larry Carlton was also one of the studio musicians capable of transforming a standard chord progression into a much richer harmonic texture simply by choosing inversions and passing notes.

He is known for his highly advanced sense of voice leading, where each guitar note logically follows the previous one, creating fluid lines even over complex harmonies.

His influence is enduring in modern guitar, where understated sophistication is often valued over technical demonstration.
