Marcus Miller is considered one of the most influential bassists in modern jazz. Born in Brooklyn in 1959, he began playing music at a very young age before becoming a sought-after studio musician in New York. His playing blends funk, jazz, soul and fusion with an extremely precise slap technique. In the 1980s, he worked with Miles Davis, appearing on several of the trumpeter's major albums. A composer, arranger and producer, he has also collaborated with Luther Vandross, David Sanborn and Aretha Franklin. His album "M2" won a Grammy Award in 2001 and remains a benchmark of contemporary jazz fusion.
