To find out more...
Marcus Miller is often regarded as one of the architects of the modern "cool jazz-funk" sound. In the 1980s, he became Miles Davis's touring bassist, which had a profound influence on his approach to musical space and improvisation. He learned to favour silence and rhythmic tension over virtuosity.
He has also had a career as a composer for the cinema, notably with music that blends jazz, soul and urban atmospheres. His style is characterised by lilting bass lines, often constructed as main themes. In addition to his solo albums, he continues to explore world music, incorporating African and Caribbean influences into his compositions.
