To find out more...
Marcus Miller has established himself as a pivotal musician between jazz, soul and studio pop. In the 1980s, he became musical director and principal bassist for Luther Vandross, helping to define the sophisticated sound of modern R&B with his rich, highly structured arrangements.
He is also renowned for his ability to play both bassist and arranger, often using the bass as a full harmonic instrument, not just a rhythmic one. His highly controlled, melodic slap style has influenced a whole generation of bassists.
On stage, he combines jazz improvisation and funk energy, while remaining faithful to a very clean, narrative sound aesthetic.
