The smooth polished surface of the FW610 physically changes the relationship between the right hand and the string: the finger or bow glides along without any parasitic catch, freeing up the pizzicato attack and giving the bow a rapid response from the first touch. The singing highs blossom without stridency, while the deep bass sinks with a density that only a tight metal coil can produce.
The multi-strand metal core absorbs tension without excessive rigidity - it's the core that makes the bass strings flexible under the fingers, where a single-strand core would offer dry resistance. The tungsten winding, denser than standard stainless steel, condenses the vibratory mass into a smaller diameter: the resulting high sustain holds the note long after the attack, and the extended harmonics colour the sound beyond the fundamental. Controlled damping factors balance this sustain to prevent the notes melting into each other in the low register. Complex high strings take advantage of this architecture to project extended harmonics into the upper end of the spectrum.
The 863.6mm scale length covers the standard electric double bass, with declared compatibility for the Omni Bass NS Design. The available tunings - standard fourths E-A-D-G, treble extension E-A-D-G-C or bass extension B-E-A-D-G - cover the most common playing configurations from jazz to amplified music and contemporary repertoire. The low tension and responsiveness of the strings remain consistent whatever the tuning chosen.
