NS Design FW617 Corde High C set FW610 electric flat wires The NS Design FW617 High C string extends the FW610 set upwards on a 5-string electric double bass - same tungsten winding, same polished surface, same multi-strand core - so that the high C is an exact continuation of the four low strings in the set.

ARTICLE N° 121403
Extending a 5-string electric double bass upwards immediately reveals the inconsistencies of mismatched playing: a High C string whose tension or timbre deviates from the rest of the set creates an audible break as soon as the bow crosses the G string. The FW617 completes the FW610 set from above with the same manufacturing architecture - multi-strand metal core, tungsten winding, smooth polished surface - so that the C sings with the same crystalline projection as the strings below.

The mechanical behaviour of this string in the treble takes advantage of the density of the tungsten winding: the diameter remains contained while maintaining sufficient vibratory mass for the string to respond to the bow without harshness and to the pizzicato without dry snapping. The calibrated damping of the FW610 extends naturally over this C, without any untimely brightness peaks at the top of the spectrum.

Compatibility with the 5-string double bass targets the double bassist who already plays the FW610 in E-A-D-G tuning and wants to switch to the E-A-D-G-C configuration without rebuilding the whole set. The FW617 integrates without rebalancing the overall tension, and the double bass's high register gains access to the harmonic colours of the cello without losing the sonic identity of the lower instrument.
