The RME LNI-2 DC is a power filter designed to supply clean, stable DC voltage to sensitive equipment. It is used between a DC power source and the device to be powered in order to minimise electrical interference that may cause humming, interference or unwanted noise.
Presentation
Its key feature is the galvanic isolation between the input and output. The circuit electrically separates the two sides of the power supply, including their earth connections, to prevent interference from the source reaching the powered device directly. This architecture is particularly effective at minimising hum, high-frequency noise and leakage currents that might otherwise be present in an audio system.
The second key feature is RME’s μFilter. This ultra-low-noise linear regulator combines filtering, stabilisation and sensing technology directly at the output connector. The voltage actually supplied to the device is thus controlled despite variations caused by the load or the cable. The result is a fixed 12 V output capable of delivering 2 A continuously, with a stated output impedance of just 0.012 ohms and noise levels of less than a few microvolts.
The LNI-2 DC also retains a very compact form factor: its solid-machined aluminium casing measures just 80 × 30 × 123 mm and weighs 605 g. Two 1-metre sensing cables are supplied, with either a lockable or standard 2.1 × 5.5 mm DC connector.
Two LEDs allow for quick monitoring of the presence of input and output voltages, as well as any potential overload. A ground terminal also allows the output ground to be connected, if necessary, to PE or another earth reference in order to resolve certain wiring issues.
