Sabian - 15005MPL HH Low Max Stax

The Sabian HH Low Max Stax 15005MPL is an effects cymbal stack developed in collaboration with drummer Mike Portnoy. It's part of Sabian's HH series, renowned for its rich sonic character and B20 alloy construction.

This stack consists of 2 cymbals stacked one on top of the other. The top part is a 12-inch Max Stax China Kang. The lower part is a 14" Max Stax Crash.

This combination creates a unique sound somewhere between a very open hi-hat and a china-style stack. The result is a sharp, abrasive attack that stands out easily in a mix.

The edges of the cymbals are deliberately left unturned. This characteristic accentuates the roughness of the sound and reinforces the raw character of the accents.

The thin weight of the top and bottom cymbals ensures a rapid response under the stick. This configuration favours short, dynamic strokes.

The 12" Max Stax China Kang adds an explosive character with a sound texture akin to controlled white noise. Its raised shape contributes to the distinctive attack of the stack.

The 14" crash underneath offers a wider soundstage and a balanced dynamic response. It provides effective projection and good definition of accents.

Tightening the throttle on the support makes the sound shorter and drier. By loosening it slightly, the stack gains in volume and sustain.

This type of cymbal is particularly appreciated for punctuating breaks, accentuating transitions or reinforcing energetic passages.
