The Sabian Stratus Alto Stax 14" is based on a direct combination of a Stratus Zero 14" and an AA Holy China 14". It's precisely this combination that gives the stack its very fast, explosive character, with a response designed for short, punchy accents.
As soon as you strike the key, you get a very pronounced burst of white noise, with an immediate attack and a deliberately trashy texture. The presence of the Holy China adds a sharp, aggressive edge, while the Stratus Zero helps to structure the overall soundstage so as to maintain a minimum of control over the sonic explosion.
The result is powerful but controlled: the volume is sufficient to get through busy mixes without losing legibility. The decay is short, almost dry, allowing very precise accents to be placed without unnecessary drag. This is typically the kind of stack that works for fast breaks, transitions or one-off effects in modern playing.
