To find out more...
A guitarist since the age of 12, John Petrucci is a legend in the world of progressive metal. With inspirations ranging from Yes, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath to Metallica, his six hours of daily practice have made him "one of the best guitarists to ever lay his hands on a guitar neck", according to Premier Guitar.
With his childhood friend Kevin Moore (keyboardist), they formed a cover band in the 80s. It was at Boston high school that he met Mike Portnoy (drummer) with his other childhood friend, John Myung (bassist). After playing covers of Rush and Iron Maiden at Berklee, these four friends decided to form the band "Majesty". This name was already taken, so they renamed their band "Dream Theater".
This would not prevent John Petrucci, years later, from naming his signature guitars "Majesty".
