D'Angelico - Deluxe Bob Weir 3 Signature Matte Stone
D'Angelico Deluxe Bob Weir 3 Signature Matte Stone The D'Angelico Deluxe Bob Weir 3 Matte Stone, a signature semi-hollow electric guitar with a centre-block design, embodies the spirit of Californian rock. Its laminated maple body and TV Jones Custom DA’Tron pickups deliver a vintage tone, whilst the three-piece maple/walnut/maple neck ensures every chord is stable.
Presentation
The semi-hollow body design with a central block hollows out the body without completely emptying it: the attack remains crisp, as on a solid-body guitar, whilst air circulates as in an open-back guitar. The laminated maple top, sides and back are layered like sediment, a material chosen for its harmonic clarity. The single-cutaway body provides easy access to the higher frets, and its five-ply binding traces a clean line around the wood. Its depth of 44.45 mm and width of 381 mm create a slim body under the arm.
The three-piece maple/walnut/maple neck, fitted as a set neck, features a C-shaped profile that widens from 20 mm at the first fret to 22 mm at the twelfth. Its ebony fingerboard, curved to a radius of 406.4 mm (16"), features twenty-two Jescar 47/104 nickel-silver frets, three-ply binding and Split Block mother-of-pearl inlays, complemented by side markers. The Graph Tech Tusq nut, 42.86 mm wide, sits in front of a double-action truss rod that adjusts the neck’s curvature throughout the seasons.
The Standard headstock, with its three-ply binding and satin finish, features the D’Angelico New York and Deluxe Shield logos in mother-of-pearl, along with a serial number and the model name engraved on the back. The Cupola headpin and the gold-plated Skyscraper truss rod cover, engraved with the signature, complete this golden ensemble. The Grover 509 Super Rotomatic locking tuners keep the guitar in tune, supported by a gold-plated Tune-O-Matic bridge with roller saddles and a D’Angelico Shield Tremolo system that allows the guitarist to bend notes without going out of tune.
The two TV Jones Custom DA’Tron pickups – one at the neck and one at the bridge – recreate the warm, rounded tone of 1960s valve amps. A three-position switch, two push-pull volume controls, two tone controls and a master volume control offer distinct tone combinations, controlled by 500 kΩ potentiometers. The standard mono jack output and the six D’Angelico Electrozinc 10-46 strings complete this circuit, designed for the stage.
The five-ply Tortoise Scalini pickguard and the five ebony knobs add a vintage touch, whilst the absence of a backplate keeps the central block visible. The gold-plated locking strap pins secure the instrument whilst on the move. Assembled in Korea, it weighs 3.63 kg and comes with a Deluxe DESSCASE hard case included.

Spotlight on
D'Angelico is a New York brand of electric guitars that has existed since 1938. First went unnoticed because the guitars were manufactured only by hand in a very small workshop by two luthiers; it is in 2011, at a show at the New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, that D'Angelico is noticed. Since then, D'Angelico guitars have been a real success thanks to their quality of manufacture and their price.
