On stage, the Numa X Piano GT pulls out all the stops. Its TrS physical modelling engine covers acoustic pianos and vintage electric keyboards, with 300-voice polyphony and a total of 450 presets, including both factory and user presets. Nine effect families – reverb, delay, modulation, distortion, overdrive, wah, EQ and compression – reshape each sound on the fly.

The Fatar TP/400 weighted hammer-action keyboard recreates the feel of a real piano under your fingers, from the bass to the highest treble. The sensitivity can be adjusted to suit your playing style, and aftertouch adds an extra layer of nuance to sustained notes. Two joysticks control parameters in real time, without taking your eyes off the keyboard.

In terms of connectivity, four jack inputs and two outputs cover both stage monitor and venue sound, with a headphone output for discreet rehearsals. The USB-B port handles audio and MIDI, two DIN MIDI ports connect to older equipment, and four pedal inputs accommodate the SLP3-D triple pedal supplied as standard. As an added bonus, Numa Manager organises sounds from a computer.

The Soft Case C is designed to be rolled rather than carried, with its built-in wheels and three handles that keep pace with the demands of a tour. Two internal straps hold the keyboard in place, a large external pocket stores cables and sheet music, and 20 mm of padding cushions it against the jolts of the road.
