Analogue Mixing Desk

The Union Audio area.6 analogue mixing desk is designed for Eurorack set-ups and hybrid configurations. Its architecture prioritises a signal path directly inspired by traditional analogue mixing desks, delivering exceptionally refined sound reproduction.

The two auxiliary sends, the two stereo returns and the insert on the Union Audio area.6 mixing desk open up a wide range of possibilities for external processing, creating loops or integrating hardware effects. This setup allows you to combine modular synthesisers, drum machines, external processors and other audio sources into a coherent, seamless and user-friendly system.

The built-in filter is a powerful sound-shaping tool. Both the high-pass and low-pass modes feature adjustable resonance, with a range spanning 30 Hz to 10 kHz for the HPF and 20 kHz to 30 Hz for the LPF. The Drive control gradually enriches the signal with harmonics via controlled saturation; the filter output can then be routed to Aux 1 to expand processing possibilities without complicating the audio signal path.

Voltage-controlled operation naturally expands the possibilities for interaction with a modular system. The level, pan and auxiliary send parameters respond to CV signals, allowing the mix to evolve continuously without the need for constant adjustment of the controls.

The filter also accepts modulation between 0 V and +5 V across its entire range, making it easy to create movements synchronised with envelopes, LFOs or sequencers. This approach retains the responsiveness of a traditional analogue mixing desk whilst taking advantage of the modulation capabilities characteristic of the Eurorack ecosystem.

The built-in compressor goes beyond simple dynamic range reduction. Its Ratio, Threshold and Gain controls allow for both conventional operation and parallel compression, directly accessible from the front panel. The peak detection system reacts quickly to signal variations, with adjustable gain of ±20 dB and a threshold ranging from −30 dB to +10 dB.

A CV output varies from +5 V down to 0 V depending on the level of compression applied, thereby creating new interactions between the dynamic processing and other modules. This design clearly emphasises immediate musicality rather than a proliferation of functions intended solely to expand a modular system.

The Tilt EQ simplifies tone shaping thanks to its particularly intuitive operation, without introducing a multitude of complex settings.
