When an audio system needs to operate all year round without fear of the elements, the choice of materials becomes just as important as the acoustic performance. It is precisely with this in mind that the WORK Athos 8R Black was developed. This installation speaker features a robust design utilising an engineering polymer specially developed to withstand outdoor conditions over the long term, whilst offering a refined aesthetic thanks to its textured, wood-effect finish.

This evolution of the ATHOS R series moves away from fibreglass in favour of a more durable material, capable of withstanding rain, temperature fluctuations and the microparticles found in outdoor environments. The design is completed by a steel grille protected by a water-repellent fabric, which helps to shield the internal components from moisture whilst allowing sound to diffuse naturally.

The sound reproduction is based on a two-way design comprising an 8-inch woofer fitted with a 2-inch voice coil and a 1-inch compression driver with a polymer ring diaphragm. This configuration delivers 150 W RMS (300 W programme), a sensitivity of 96 dB and a maximum sound pressure level of 124 dB. The 80° x 80° coverage ensures even sound distribution, making it suitable for both background music and the broadcast of voice announcements.

The versatile Athos 8R Black can be used in low-impedance mode at 8 ohms or integrated into a 70 V or 100 V public address system thanks to its built-in transformer. It comes with a U-shaped mounting bracket allowing for precise positioning during wall mounting. For specific requirements, the SPB 20 and SPB 22 mounts are available as optional extras.

Thanks to its IP54 rating, this loudspeaker is a reliable solution for terraces, shopping centres, schools, sports complexes, hotels, places of worship or any other space requiring a permanent sound system.
