In practice, the Yellowtec iXm Recording Mic YT5050 features a design tailored for vocal recording. This version combines a PRO dynamic microphone capsule with a cardioid polar pattern, described by Yellowtec as a versatile solution for a range of environments, including events and outdoor venues with traffic noise.
The LEA (Level Energy Arbitration) audio processing, built into the iXm, filters out background noise and helps produce clear recordings with a natural frequency response. Audio levels can be adjusted at the touch of a button. The high-pass filter prevents the proximity effect typically associated with directional microphones, whilst the LEA ensures balance across the frequency range.
The design features a robust metal construction, anodised in a satin dark grey finish. The control panel and status LEDs make it easy to use, whilst the system offers up to 14 hours of operation. Power is supplied by a combination of three AA batteries and a built-in rechargeable battery, with automatic load balancing between the two sources.
