MPCs are celebrating their 35th anniversary! Akai is celebrating the event by adding a collector's model to the range of the most famous rhythm sampler, combining the revolutionary creative features of MPCs with the latest technological advances: the MPC X Special Edition (SE). It is making its debut on stage with more internal storage and memory than ever before. It also benefits from cutting-edge touch control, making it the most powerful MPC system ever designed. All in a Retro look. Newsflash: new version of the OS for standalone MPC systems! This version 3.0, announced by Akai during NAMM 2025, is available! And it's free! (Did I tell you it was compatible with a selection of Native Instruments Plugins and Expansions?) More details below ⭣
Presentation
Designed for music creators who want an all-in-one solution without the need for a computer, this special edition is managed by MPC 2 software and powered by a quad-core ARM processor.
It features 4GB of RAM for sampling and recording, and offers 48GB of internal memory, of which 16GB is available for the user.
The MPC X SE features a 10.1" (256 mm) multi-gesture color touchscreen, making it easy to navigate and control functions. The 16 touch-sensitive Q-Links encoders with OLED displays allow for precise and responsive adjustments.
The beast also integrates 7 potentiometers for gain, mix and level adjustment, and a navigation and tap selection encoder, providing optimal ergonomics and flexibility. With 63 dedicated function buttons, users can quickly access essential functions.
In addition to the hardware features, the MPC X SE comes with more than 25 instrument plugins from the MPC Collection, including the Fabric XL synthesizer and numerous insert plugins, enriching users' creative possibilities.
In 2025, the ultimate MPC system becomes even more powerful!
If you thought your MPC X Special Edition had already reached its apogee, think again. With the arrival of MPC OS 3.0, Akai has once again set the standard for standalone music production. The new advanced keygroup engine lets you shape sounds with surgical precision, while extensive automation gives you absolute control over every nuance of your mix.
Do you like smooth, logical arrangements? Linear Arranger mode makes song construction a breeze, with visual clarity that would make your old workflow seem prehistoric.
Thought that was it?
With the addition of Native Instruments, the new OS is compatible with Play Series MPC Edition Plugins, giving your machine access to rich textures, hypnotic synths, and surprising effects, all tailored to your Akai Pro workflow.
Do you dream of textured lo-fi, retro-futuristic synth, or hazy trap ambiences? They’re here, ready to transform your beats into veritable auditory frescoes. A small downside: these sound nuggets aren’t free, but after all, who said inspiration was self-service?
