Akai - MPK Mini IV Black
The icon returns in a redesigned form: the MPK Mini IV from Akai Professional pushes the boundaries of compact music control even further. In a format designed for both small offices and nomadic set-ups, it boasts reworked responsiveness and enlarged keys for a more direct feel under the fingertips. The new pitch and modulation wheels take over from the joystick, making them smoother and more precise, while the RGB MPC pads echo the brand's rhythmic DNA. With its Scale and Chord modes, advanced arpeggiator and enhanced transport section, this little keyboard can do it all: from melodic sketching to full production. Connected via USB-C and ready to talk to all the big DAWs on the market, it goes everywhere with you, without compromising on creativity. As a bonus, it comes with an arsenal of sounds from AIR, Akai Pro and Moog to inspire you before you even hit the first note.
Presentation
The control panel is superbly intuitive: eight endless rotary encoders await you to control effects, volumes or filters, depending on your needs. The bright, responsive colour LED display lets you keep an eye on your parameters, presets and current tempo. The transport section has also been made even more efficient, with pre-mapped buttons for controlling your favourite DAW. Whether you're working with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig or Cubase, the built-in scripts ensure smooth dialogue, without having to waste time configuring.
The arpeggiator is now an exploration engine in its own right: its 3 modes open the door to unprecedented rhythmic textures, where each musical phrase evolves as you play. The Scale and Chord modes, meanwhile, help to maintain harmonic coherence, transforming even spontaneous ideas into accomplished sequences. The integration of pitch and modulation wheels makes expressive control a breeze, while replacing the joystick of previous versions. And because Akai doesn't do things by halves, this hardware overhaul is accompanied by a complete software package: the Studio Instrument Collection, with over 1,000 AIR, Akai Pro and Moog sounds, pre-mapped and ready to use right out of the box.
With its modernised connectivity, the MPK Mini IV is equally at home in fixed studios or mobile set-ups. The USB-C port provides a fast, stable power supply, the MIDI output lets you control hardware synths and drum machines with the same ease as software, and the sustain pedal input gives you complete control over the phrasing of your compositions. During your creative sessions, everything becomes fluid: you can play, record, adjust your filters and your mix in real time, without interruption or latency. It's a tool designed to follow you everywhere, from your first demo to live performances, without ever betraying your workflow or your musical spontaneity.
