Do you need help?
With the MPK Mini Plus II master keyboard, AKAI provides you with a control centre designed for music production and standalone MPC set-ups. Its 37 mini-keys span 3 octaves, leaving more room for melodic lines and chords. The keyboard’s redesigned layout enhances playing control, with pitch bend and modulation wheels to add nuance to your performances.

For rhythm work, the 8 backlit MPC pads are velocity-sensitive and respond to pressure via aftertouch. They are ideal for finger drumming on a MIDI keyboard, triggering clips and playing chords. The 8 assignable rotary encoders provide access to effects, filter and pan settings, with a colour display to provide visual feedback on the parameters.

AKAI has added Scales and Chords modes to facilitate harmonic work, whilst the extended arpeggiator and Note Repeat help structure rhythmic patterns. The Glitch, Mutate, Freeze and Strum functions provide tools for varying a sequence or altering its movement. This creative MIDI master keyboard is therefore ideal for compositions that alternate between melodies, chords and programmed rhythms.

The connectivity options extend control capabilities beyond virtual instruments. A MIDI output and three mini-jack CV/Gate outputs facilitate connections with synthesisers, MIDI devices and modular equipment. The MPK Mini Plus II is therefore well suited to a hybrid MIDI and modular studio.

On the software side, the keyboard integrates with Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cubase and Bitwig Studio. With an MPC running MPC3, the controls provide access to transport, mixing, tracks, plugins and clip triggering. The MPC Beats and Ableton Live Lite software, accompanied by a collection of sounds and instruments, provide a starting point for computer-assisted music composition.
