Presentation
The Altamira M30 Antique EN takes up the spirit of the Selmer-Maccaferri guitars, a model that has become a benchmark in the world of gypsy jazz and is intimately associated with the playing of Django Reinhardt. Behind this recognisable silhouette lies a powerful story: in 1932, French guitar maker Selmer teamed up with Italian guitarist and luthier Mario Maccaferri to develop a series of acoustic guitars with a design that differed from the standards of the time. Even after the partnership ended in 1934, Selmer continued to make these instruments until the early 1950s. Over the years, this steel-string guitar became one of the signature sounds of Gypsy jazz.
The Altamira M30 Antique EN follows in this tradition with an entirely solid construction. Its solid European spruce top provides a fast attack and a high degree of playing precision, while the rosewood back and sides enrich the sound with greater depth and relief. This combination works particularly well on gypsy rhythms, where every chord needs to remain clean and present.
Its 670 mm scale contributes to the tension and projection sought after in this style of guitar. The mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard give a direct, fluid feel under the fingers, which is just as pleasant for pumping as for faster melodic passages.
Designed for gypsy swing, acoustic jazz, ensemble playing and improvisation, the M30 Antique EN recaptures the spirit of historic instruments while remaining adapted to today's musicians. Supplied with its case, it's ready for rehearsals, concerts and long playing sessions.
