Black Lion's Micro Clock MKII is an external sync clock designed with simplicity in mind, but with true attention to detail in its technical design. Built around a third-order crystal oscillator and a high-impedance output circuit, it maintains the harmonic integrity of the signal, whatever the connected loads. To limit the disturbance caused by switching harmonics, Black Lion has integrated an exclusive noise reduction circuit that effectively attenuates unwanted interference in the digital spectrum.

Unlike flashy, LED-laden devices, this clock is discreet, compact and robust, in a shielded 3 x 4 inch case. It has no screen, no indicator lights and no complex menu. And yet, despite its apparent sobriety, the Micro Clock MKII is one of the most powerful solutions available at this price.

It offers six selectable clock frequencies ranging from 44.1 to 192 kHz, with a 5-volt peak-to-peak output on three 75 ohm BNC connectors. Jitter is contained to 1 picosecond RMS at the oscillator output, and less than 10 picoseconds at the connector output. It is powered via a 9-volt mains adapter compatible with 120 and 240 volts, making it a reliable studio companion, even on the move.

The effectiveness of this clock will depend on how external equipment processes the incoming clock signal, but when used with quality equipment it can significantly improve the stability, clarity and spatialisation of the digital signal. The best way to judge is to listen.
