Presentation
The Chandler Limited RS124 tube compressor is a recreation of one of the most coveted compressors of all time, the legendary EMI/Abbey Road RS124, redesigned for use in modern studios.
Its gentle character and ability to tame transients without muffling the sound at high compression levels contributed to its success with sound engineers at Abbey Road studios. This type of compressor has been widely used for tracking, bus compression, mixing and mastering. In fact, a pair of them can be seen in almost every photograph of the control room at Abbey Road Studios in the 1960s.
The RS124 tube compressor was originally built specifically for Abbey Road Studios, but was never commercially released.
Now available, the Chandler Limited RS124 compressor harnesses the sound and personalities of Abbey Road Studios' historic favourite RS124 compressors (serial numbers 60070B, 60050A and 61010B), still in use at the famous studio to this day, all in one unit.
In addition to the traditional features found on the original RS124s (input control, output attenuation, 'Recovery' control and the unique 'HOLD' setting), the Chandler Limited RS124 compressor includes modern features such as adjustable attack, selectable output impedance and a special 'SuperFuse' button.

To find out more...
Designed in 1960 by Abbey Road's Technical Director Bill Livy, Assistant Director Len Page and veteran EMI audio designer Mike Bachelor, Abbey Road's RS124 compressor is one of the most coveted and mysterious pieces of recording equipment ever conceived.
Born out of the inadequate Altec 436Bs acquired by EMI for Abbey Road in the late 1950s, the RS124 compressor is most closely associated with the recordings made by The Beatles at Abbey Road Studios. Present on virtually every Beatles session, the RS124 left its remarkable signature on most of the catalogue.
Over the years, based on incomplete information and guesswork, attempts have been made to recreate the Holy Grail of tube compressors, but without ever capturing the elusive Abbey Road RS124 in all its glory.
The schematics themselves only tell part of the story, and access to the historic units at Abbey Road Studios and the various handwritten modification notes proved crucial to understanding the true nature of the Abbey Road RS124 compressor and the variations between units.
Many revisions have been made since its inception, and as a result, the Abbey Road RS124 valve compressor has remained a mystery for decades, right up to the present day.
