Presentation
With its 2 x 900 W output at 4 Ω, the Definitive Audio AD 1800X offers plenty of power to drive your sound system. The Class D amplification is complemented by internal 24-bit digital processing, with a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz. The harmonic distortion remains below 0.5 per cent, with a typical value stated as less than 0.01 per cent.
To tailor this power to your setup, each of the two channels features a gain control adjustable across 21 positions, in 1 dB steps. You can also select the input sensitivity from 0.775 V, 1.2 V or 32 dB, whilst the mode selector allows you to choose between stereo, parallel or bridge operation. The balanced XLR inputs are complemented by Speakon outputs and speaker terminals, with a male/female XLR connection for signal loop-through.
The front panel allows you to monitor the amplifier’s activity via the ON, SIG, -12 dB, -3 dB, CLIP and PROT indicators. This enables you to quickly identify the signal level, any clipping or protection activation, without having to search for the information. Housed in a 2U rack unit, the AD 1800X also features front and side ventilation, which must remain unobstructed to ensure proper cooling.
