Presentation
The American company DiMarzio is one of the most renowned and recognized brands in the field of electric guitar pickups, particularly their humbuckers.
Larry DiMarzio created the Super Distortion in 1973, the very first replacement humbucker and which enjoyed enormous success with the greatest guitarists of the time (Al Di Meola, KISS, Earl Slick, Ronnie Montrose).
Since then, the range has evolved to meet the needs of guitarists of all generations, regardless of their style.
With the emergence of musical styles using more and more saturation, DiMarzio has expanded its range of microphones to achieve different responses and different output levels to meet the expectations of musicians, and some of the greatest artists have benefited from its expertise. do to create their own signature microphone (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, John Petrucci,...).
Since the 1980s, many Metal bands have used EMG active pickups to obtain a surgical, aggressive, sharp and noise-insensitive sound, making the brand an essential reference.
But two elements often emerge: the use of inappropriate batteries over time, and above all a lack of warmth and dynamics.
In 2007, DiMarzio launched the D Activator, the first passive microphone designed with the desire to combine the benefits of both worlds: the aggressiveness and precision of the active, the warmth and dynamics of the passive.
By rebalancing the frequencies and the output level then using 12 Allen screws (instead of the standard screws + pads) the manufacturer managed to create a successful hybrid, not requiring a battery and respecting the tone of the instrument on which it is installed.
Its precision is such that the sound remains hyper precise, even with tuning from beyond the grave.
Today, the D Activator is a safe bet for all Rockers and Metalheads looking for clarity and good attack while maintaining a tight and defined sound. A 7 and 8 string version also exists to meet all needs.
