When working on the Dimarzio DP281BK Rainmaker Neck pickup, John Petrucci wanted a sound that evoked both the feel of blues and the power of prog metal. Thanks to this humbucker, you'll be able to play with nuances even better!

Made in collaboration with John Petrucci, the Rainmaker Neck humbucker has been designed to capture both the finesse and passion of his playing. This dual-coil pickup is positioned on the neck, but can also be set up in the bridge position. It maintains clarity even when you turn up the gain, which is ideal for solos.
With its open mids and softer highs, it retains that vintage feel while being at ease with modern sounds. Petrucci uses it on his Majesty guitars, but it works just as well on a more traditional guitar. For example, fitted to a guitar with a glued neck or through neck, it adds a beautiful coherence to the sound.
The output level remains moderate, so you can go from jazz fusion to progressive riffs without worry. You can also turn the volume down a little to get a mellower clean sound, without losing any definition.
In terms of feel, it really gives the impression that the guitar 'breathes'. It's particularly at home with high-gain amps, but also with lighter overdrive pedals.
