The Drawmer 1970 combines a preamp, an FET compressor and an instrument DI input in a unit designed for a wide variety of production environments. Its design combines precision, flexibility and character, allowing it to fit just as naturally into a recording studio as it does on a mobile production unit. The 1970 is a studio device designed to combine several essential functions into a single, coherent unit.
Its two microphone preamps utilise THAT Corporation circuitry capable of delivering up to 66 dB of gain, with phantom power, a high-pass filter, phase reversal and selectable impedance. This combination makes it easy to adapt to a wide range of sources and ensures a faithful capture before any further processing takes place.
Each channel features a full-featured FET compressor with threshold, ratio, attack and release controls, allowing you to precisely adjust the dynamics to suit the project’s requirements. The two channels operate independently for mono processing or can be linked to process a stereo bus without causing any shift in the soundstage.
The ‘Big’ and ‘Air’ modes enhance the low and high frequencies respectively, whilst the ‘Mix’ control enables directly integrated parallel compression without the need for an external mixer.
A professional DI input accommodates electric instruments with dedicated bass and treble adjustments. This design allows you to quickly prepare a bass, guitar or keyboard before recording, whilst maintaining precise control over their tonal balance.
The audio path can remain completely transparent thanks to the symmetrical bypass, which completely bypasses the compression stages, the mixing circuit and the gain controls. This architecture allows the signal to pass directly between the input and output when neutrality is the priority.
The side-chain insertion points on the rear panel also open the way for additional processing with equalisers or other dynamic processors.
The design emphasises stability, reliability and a build quality designed to withstand long periods of use, without ever showing the slightest sign of needing a break.
