Presentation
The SPL Crescendo duo v2 is a professional two-channel microphone preamplifier designed for studios seeking extremely detailed reproduction, high transparency and exceptional dynamic headroom. At the heart of the unit lies SPL’s proprietary 120V technology, which utilises an internal voltage of ±60 V for audio processing. This architecture enables the Crescendo duo to achieve a maximum output level of +32.5 dBu and offers a significant headroom before saturation.
The two identical channels feature comprehensive controls to adapt the preamp to a wide range of recording situations: 48 V phantom power for condenser microphones, polarity reversal, a high-pass filter to reduce noise below 120 Hz, a 20 dB PAD and precise gain adjustment up to +70 dB. The switchable output level control also allows for optimal adaptation to DACs and audio interfaces.
Particularly useful for stereo recording, the Crescendo duo features two parallel XLR outputs per channel. This design allows the signal to be sent simultaneously to two devices – for example, to a main system and a backup system – without the need for an external splitter.
With its 4 mm black anodised aluminium front panel, solid-machined knobs and steel chassis, the SPL Crescendo duo v2 combines top-class performance with robust construction. Manufactured by SPL in Germany, it is particularly well suited to vocals, guitars and acoustic instruments, overheads, ensemble mics, stereo main mics and other applications requiring faithful and highly dynamic capture.

The updated Crescendo duo v2 stands out in particular for its new Studio Series design and the increased number of intermediate settings available for gain adjustment.
‘120V’ does not refer to the mains voltage. It refers to the internal voltage used by the audio electronics; the Crescendo duo operates correctly on either 230 V or 115 V mains power, depending on the selected setting.
The two parallel outputs per channel can eliminate the need for an external splitter, particularly when sending a signal simultaneously to a main recorder and a backup system.
The -20 dB PAD function is not only intended for very high-gain microphones: SPL states that it also allows the Crescendo duo to be used effectively with line-level signals.
