Halfway between the vintage sound of the sixties and the more muscular saturation of modern sounds, the Joyo D-56 Dr.J pedal takes you on one hell of a sonic journey.
With its small 2-position switch, you can go from a soft, warm fuzz to a more biting, almost abrasive saturation in two seconds. On the 'Ge' side, it's the germanium spirit that takes over, with that typical grain, a little grainy and mellow, reminiscent of the old transistor fuzz pedals found in the pedalboards of psychedelic rock pioneers. On the other hand, when you switch to 'B' mode, you open the door to a more aggressive, punchier fuzz, which jumps out at you with sharp highs and a clean attack. It's a bit like having two distinct personalities in one pink box.
And it doesn't stop there. Because by combining this selector with the usual volume, gain and tone controls, you can fine-tune your sound exactly the way you like it. Whether you're looking to thicken a solo, dirty up a riff or just colour your sound in a slightly trashy way, this pedal is ideal.
