Lindell Audio - LiN2A

The Lindell Audio LiN2A follows in the great tradition of tube optical compressors that have shaped studio sound for over sixty years. Its aim is clear: to offer a faithful reproduction of the dynamic behaviour, grain and ease of use that made the original 2A circuits such a success, while offering modern, reliable construction.

At the heart of the LiN2A is a true tube-based optical compression circuit, combined with a carefully selected Black Lion T4BLA opto-electronic element. This optical cell provides progressive and musical gain reduction, capable of smoothing a vocal with great transparency or adding weight and control to a bass or kick drum, without ever overpowering the source. The compressor's behaviour is entirely signal-dependent, with a rapid attack and natural release that automatically adapts to the audio programme.

The deliberately minimalist interface is based on two main controls, Gain and Peak Reduction, complemented by a Compress or Limit mode selector. In compression mode, the LiN2A adopts a gentle ratio of around 3:1, ideal for processing vocals and melodic instruments. The limiter mode provides effective peak control with a very high ratio, while retaining the warm sonic signature of the optical circuit.

The audio path is reinforced by two Cinemag transformers made in the USA, guaranteeing robust balanced input and output, excellent headroom and the subtle coloration typical of vintage equipment. The package is rounded off by a vintage-style vumeter for precise display of gain reduction.
